Organizations calling for the province to cancel a $120 million remand expansion at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre say the funding would be best redirected to communities where it’s needed.
On Tuesday, the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples, Association of Metis, Non and Status Indians of Saskatchewan, the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan, Community Legal Assistance Services For Saskatoon Inner City Inc. (CLASSIC), Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan and the Elizabeth Fry Society of Saskatchewan, issued statements asking the government to end the planned expansion, which would add over 400 beds to the facility.
