Usually women arrive in prison with nothing – only the clothes on their back- no money, no change of clothes, no personal supplies. Although they work while in prison, they have to work a month before receiving their first spending credit. The Caring for You Kits are designed to see them through those first weeks and to enable them to “care” for themselves. The Kits are also available to women returning to the community.
Caring for You Kits consist of a toothbrush and toothpaste, wide tooth comb, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, sanitary napkins, underwear, socks and a journal.
