The Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies (CAEFS) Prairie Regional Advocate team consists of the Executive Directors from Elizabeth Fry Society of Saskatchewan, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg. The Regional Advocate team provides services to federally sentenced women incarcerated at Edmonton Institution for Women, Okimaw Ohci Healing Lodge in Maple Creek, the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon and to those returning to community. They assist with larger administrative and policy issues within the prison system and act as a voice for the region in facilitating discussion and flagging cases for national attention.
Past examples of systemic advocacy related issues have been the over use of administrative segregation, denying spiritual practices such as smudging, and assisting women with the internal grievance processes outlined by the Correctional Service of Canada.
