The Volunteer Program offers opportunities for community members to learn about and participate in supporting women who are at risk as well as for those who are criminalized. We recruit, train, supervise, support and retain volunteers in a variety of ways to accommodate the varying needs, experiences, and expectations that each individual volunteer brings to our organization. Volunteers come from all walks of life including women with lived experience, students, seniors, community service clubs, and folks who just want to make a difference.
There are three streams of volunteer opportunities:
- Our program stream is for volunteers who work directly with our program staff and clients on a longer term basis. They work in the prisons, at the Community Training Residence for women, and with the courtworker.
- Our office/research stream is for volunteers who prefer to work behind the scenes. Their work consists of gathering statistics, answering the phones, volunteering at our monthly bingos, and researching.
- Our projects and events stream is for volunteers who may not have time to volunteer on a consistent basis but enjoy coming out and helping with short term needs. These volunteers help with our fundraising events, conferences, and Christmas Gift drive. As a small staff base, we heavily rely on volunteer power to achieve our mission.
“I so much appreciate volunteering at the Elizabeth Fry Society. It’s a real priority in my life to help out these women” ~(A long-time volunteer)~
